Cher to Play Catwoman?

Rumors are swirling that the actress will star in the next Batman film.

The U.K.'s Daily Mirror is reporting that Cher will take on the role of Catwoman in the latest sequel to the hit "Batman" series, Fox News reports.

The tabloid claims that the Oscar-winning actress and singer is reportedly in talks to star in the third film in the franchise alongside lead actor Christian Bale. The films, directed by Christopher Nolan, are notoriously "dark," but have become a hit with audiences.

Writers for the Mirror say that a studio executive told them, "Cher is Nolan's first choice to play Catwoman. He wants her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years." In response to some poor reaction over previous portrayals of the villain, the source reportedly added, "The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry's purring creations."

Cher's turn as Catwoman is not the first rumor that has begun swirling about casting decisions for the upcoming film. Several other well-known actors have been mentioned in relation to the third film as well. Angelina Jolie has also been envisioned in the role of Catwoman, Johnny Depp's name has been tossed around to play the role of the Riddler, and other rumors have actor Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin.
