Chicago to Host 2016 Games?

Chicago and three other cities have been named by the IOC as potential host cities for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

SI.com reports that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has confirmed a list of potential cities to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. The four potential host for the 2016 Games are Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the IOC referred to Chicago's $4.8 billion bid as "ambitious but achievable."

The biggest concern for the IOC regarding Chicago as a host city is "whether the Metra commuter-rail service can handle a near-doubling in demand that's expected during the 17-day event."

The Associated Press, states that all four potential hosting cities have question marks surrounding them, not just Chicago. Madrid's Achilles' heel is a "lack of understanding of roles." The concern regarding Rio de Janeiro is operating urban projects in the area and citizens of Tokyo are not very enthusiastic about hosting the 2016 Games.
