Chris Benoit's Doctor Faces Charges

The wrestler's doctor allegedly gave illegal prescriptions.

Dr. Phil Lastin, the physician for Chris Benoit, surrendered to authorities on Monday in Atlanta. He is charged with improperly giving painkillers.

He was indicted on seven counts of illegally prescribing drugs, which include Percocet and Xanax. The prescriptions were made to two individuals with the initials O.G. and M.J. Benoit was not identified as one of the recipients.

He was arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge Linda Walker and released on a $120,000 secured bond, which required him to surrender his medical license.

A separate complaint is also pending against him for prescribing other controlled substances, including anabolic steroids. An investigation regarding this complaint claims that the doctor did provide Benoit with testosterone cypionate, an anabolic steroid, over a one year period between May 2006 and May of this year.

The probe was launched a week after Chris Benoit murdered his wife and seven year-old son and then killed himself at their home in Fayetteville, Georgia.
