Chris Brown Pleads Innocent
According to Reuters, R&B star Chris Brown, 19, entered a plea of not guilty to charges he assaulted his girlfriend, pop star Rihanna, 19.
Brown appeared in a Los Angeles Superior Court Monday for his arraignment hearing.
Charges against Brown state he assaulted Rihanna "by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury."
A police affidavit accused Brown of punching and biting Rihanna, as well as shoving her head against the passenger window of his rented Lamborghini this past February.
After the hearing, Donald Etra, Rihanna's lawyer, said to reporters that Rihanna hoped a plea deal could be reached, but if none were, she would be ready to testify against Brown. Mark Geragos, Brown's lawyer, did not comment.
Judge Patricia Schnegg scheduled an April 29 status hearing for Brown. If convicted, Brown could spend up to four years in prison.
Brown previously put out a statement saying he was "sorry and saddened" about the incident and that he was enrolling in counseling.
