Chris Brown to remain under supervised probation

Brown is also reportedly refusing to do red carpet interviews at the Grammys

R&B singer Chris Brown will make his return to the Grammy stage this year, exactly three years after he assaulted Rihanna. However, despite recent good behaviour, he will remain under supervised probation, a judge said Thursday in a court hearing that Brown did not attend. Brown also reportedly will not take part in the red carpet interviews and festivities before the show to avoid the press.

Mark Geragos, Brown’s attorney, argued to Superior Court Judge George Lomeli that he should be granted unsupervised probation because of good behavior. However, Lomeli agreed with prosecutors that supervised probation should continue. This requires Brown to report to a probation officer once a month in Virginia, his home state, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Rolling Stone reports that part of Brown’s sentence includes six months of community service, which he has completed half of. Lomeli said that he believed it was reasonable to keep Brown under supervised probation until he finishes the community service hours.

Brown, who is nominated for Grammy awards for his album, F.A.M.E., will be there to perform, but he will not be talking to the press. In order to avoid questions about Rihanna, he will avoid red carpet interviews, according to a source for Radar Online. “Chris is hopeful that his performance will close that chapter on his life. He will be bringing his mom to the awards ceremony, she is his biggest fan, and he has told her he is dedicating his performance to her,” the source said.

Brown is likely hoping to avoid a repeat of his appearance on Good Morning America last March. As the LA Times notes, he was asked several questions about the assault case, but tried to avoid them and talk about the new record. He then only performed one of the two songs he was scheduled to sing and stormed off to his dressing room.
