Chris Klein Voluntarily Extends Stint in Rehab Treatment Facility

The actor decided that 30 days was not enough to cure his alcoholism

In mid-June, actor Chris Klein was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and he decided to check himself into the Cirque Lodge rehab treatment facility in Sundance, Utah several days later. Jaime Primak, Klein’s representative, addressed his progress on Thursday by saying, “Chris, along with his support team, has decided to extend his treatment. He is doing fantastic and is optimistic about his future. He thanks everyone for their continued support.”

The American Pie star, whose career in Hollywood has dwindled in recent years, initially intended to spend about 30 days in rehab but the progress he has made thus far has encouraged him to remain at the facility, according to the NY Daily News. The DUI arrest on June 16 was not the first time that Klein had been in trouble with the law.

He was charged with two misdemeanors in 2005 when he recorded a .20 blood-alcohol level, which was more than twice the legal limit in California. Klein faces two misdemeanor counts for his arrest last month and he faces up to one year in jail if he is convicted.

To go along with the potential jail time, the actor may be forced to pay a $1,000 fine, among other punishments.
