Chris Weitz Says He "Lucked Out" With 'New Moon'

Weitz acknowledges his Twilight franchise luck

Thousands of fans lined up at various retail stores nationwide on Friday night as New Moon was released to DVD on Saturday, March 20.

Many retailers held release parties, and those who were at the Los Angles Wal-Mart were surprised with a special treat. Director Chris Weitz and actress Nikki Reed showed up to celebrate with their die-hard fans.

Weitz told MTV:

"The first question I always get asked is, 'Did you feel a lot of pressure coming in doing the second movie of the franchise?' And I actually didn't even think about that until people started asking me."

Weitz admits that he lucked out with the second film because the first film was so popular. While Weitz realizes his role in helping the film become even more popular, he acknowledges how the cast and those working with him helped to make it a phenomenon as well.

David Slade directed the third installment, Eclipse, which is released in theaters June 30. Gus Van Sant, Sofia Coppola, and Bill Condon are in the running to direct the final movie, Breaking Dawn.
