Chuck, "Life" Premieres Bomb in the Ratings
It seems that NBC has not properly estimated the effect that Heroes has in relation to other shows the network is attempting to promote.
The latest (and arguably best examples of this) were Chuck and Life, both of which returned to disappointing numbers Monday night.
The blame should not be placed solely on Heroes (and probably not predominately on the popular show, either), but rather on the writers strike, because Chuck had been off the air since January. And Life was last seen on the air in December.
Chuck received 6.6 million viewers, which was down 28 percent from the show's series premiere and 17 percent from its season one average.
But even though ratings are down, don't expect Chuck to go anywhere any time soon, because NBC picked up the show for a full 22 episode Season 2 weeks before the season two premiere even aired.
Life, on the other hand, could very well be in trouble, but not because of Monday night's ratings (6.9 million watched, down 7 percent from its freshman season average). The true test for the show will be the ratings in its typical time slot, Friday nights at 10 p.m. ET.
