Chuck Versus First Class – Recap

Chuck’s latest additions to the cast are Brandon Routh (Superman), Kristin Kreuk (Smallville, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li), and Steve Austin (The Condemned). The new addition of Shaw, Routh, to the team makes Chuck nervous and, to make things worse, Casey tells him that, as a Special Agent to the CIA, Shaw does evaluations of the team. To Chuck’s surprise, the evaluation is about him. During the evaluation Shaw confronts Sarah about her three-day absence while she was explicitly told to stay in contact. She lies, but Shaw suspects she was ready to run with Chuck.

The whole team meets in Headquarters and Chuck is assigned to his first solo mission in Paris, France. Chuck readies his arsenal which includes a set of Nunchakus. He simply does not like guns. Sarah tells Chuck that he is not ready. Shaw argues otherwise and after a brief scuttle, Chuck is on a plane sitting next to beautiful Hannah, Kreuk. His amazement at first class is undeniable and he starts to guess what all the first class members are probably doing on their way to Paris. Unfortunately for Chuck, he flashes on the Ring agent aboard the plane.

Inevitably, Chuck begins freaking out and calls HQ. Shaw informs him that his mission is not in Paris but aboard the plane. He must, stealthily, put Hugo, Austin, to sleep and rob him from a key that is essential to opening a case from an inside Ring agent. The only problem with the mission is that Chuck has no idea how to be a spy, much less a stealthy one. Chuck makes up a story and gets close to Hugo but, again, is unable to be subtle and is caught. With his unbelievable luck or lack thereof, Hugo is put out of business and Chuck slips out. In the cargo hold, Chuck finds the key. Sarah and Shaw continue to argue about Chuck’s inability to produce good results in this mission. Chuck calls and tells them that he’s found where the key is. The next call is to tell them that Hugo has found his way to the cargo booth. Casey picks up but advises Chuck to be taken and flash or die.

Casey gets to HQ and informs the quarreling two about Chuck’s incident only to find out that he’s taken care of Hugo. Chuck makes his way back to Hannah and catches up on the Eiffel tower. Hannah calls Chuck’s bluff and tells him that it is obvious he’s never been to Paris. She also reveals that she lied and has just lost her job. On the Burbank front, Morgan is having trouble getting the teams of Buy More employees respect him and that they are running the store. Lester is running things behind the scenes and leading the rebellion so Casey calls him an insurgent and deals with him as such.

Hannah and Chuck become comfortable but he is quickly poisoned due to his own carelessness. Then, while trying to get help, finds that the flight attendant is also a Ring agent, and that Hugo is back to normal. While trying to get back the key, Shaw and Sarah come to Chuck’s rescue. In the meantime the episode features one of the funniest “wannabe” spy scenes where Chuck attempts to use the nunchakus.

The spy stuff is over but Chuck makes plans for Paris only to have them cancelled by Shaw and the team. Chuck urges him to look him up, if she ever finds herself in Burbank. The key opens the case and reveals several discs containing information on The Ring. The case is over but Chuck is left empty handed when Hannah appears at the Buy More.
