Cilburn Piano Competition Winner to Be Announced
Winners for the 13th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition will be announced on Sunday. According to LATimes.com, six pianists, ranging from the ages of 19 to 27, are competing for the title.
Each pianist will perform two compositions with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra under the musical director James Conlon, reported LATimes.com. After all the concerts, which will be held Wednesday through Sunday, a winner will be announced.
Starting with 29 pianists from 14 countries, the six that remain include Evgeni Bozhanov, 25, of Bulgaria, Yeol Eum Son, 23, of South Korea, Nobuyuki Tsujii, 20, of Japan, Mariangela Vacatello, 27, of Italy, Di Wu, 24, of China, and Haochen Zhang, 19, also of China, according to LATimes.com.
If the winner comes from an Asian country, it would be the first occurrence in the competitions 47-year history, reported Chron.com. Similarly, if Tsujii took home the competition, it would be the first time for a blind pianist to win.
