Cleveland Browns' Stallworth Hits and Kills Pedestrian

Details are unclear of the nature of the accident.

The Associated Press reported that on Saturday morning in Miami, Donte Stallworth hit a pedestrian with his Bentley around 7 a.m. on a causeway linking Miami and Miami Beach. The pedestrian, 59-year-old Mario Reyes, was taken to a nearby trauma center where he was pronounced dead an hour later.

Stallworth is a wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns and has also played for the New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints. The 28-year-old NFL player owns two condos in a building on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami, along with another condo in Miami, according to Miami-Dade County property records.

Routine blood samples were taken to test for drugs and alcohol, although police say results could take anywhere from three days to three weeks to return. Police would not say where Stallworth was coming from or where he was headed, nor were they able to tell if Reyes was crossing legally.

Stallworth's outspoken agent, Drew Rosenhaus, could not be reached for comment. The Browns released a statement in which they said, "We understand the seriousness of this situation, but will not have further comment at this time as this is an ongoing investigation."

Miami police described Stallworth as cooperative and no charges have been filed.
