Climate and Energy Bill Marks Historic Moment in US History

Congress will return on Monday to debate the newest proposed climate and energy bill.

Congress will return to debate the country's shift to a cleaner and more efficient usage of energy on Monday.

Included in these debates will be a decision on how to reduce the build up of heat-trapping gases within the atmosphere, reported KansasCity.com.

Before breaking for Memorial Day, the House Energy and Commerce Committee endorsed a bill that will limit greenhouse gases as well as encourage renewable energy. The Washington Post notes that the current level of CO2 emissions around the world could potentially cause rising temperatures with long-lasting consequences.

The proposed bill may in fact do little to alleviate climate issues while imposing substantial costs to Americans. Many proponents of the measure have only approved it because of a promise attached to the bill to devote a large chuck of allowance proceeds to low and middle-income homes. These would come in the form of tax cuts and vouchers, reported the San Francisco Chronicle.
