Clooney's ex calling end of relationship 'difficult,' but is moving on

Elisabetta Canalis and Dance Pro Val Chmerkovskiy on Twitpic George Clooney’s ex-girlfriend, Elisabetta Canalis, is using her new Dancing with the Stars gig as a distraction from her recent breakup with the actor.

People magazine reports that the 32-year-old model, whose two year relationship with Clooney, 50, ended in June, told Italian magazine Chi that when things are tough, she always tries to find a reason to go forward.

“It was a difficult time for me,” she says. “But you have to get on with things.”

Canalis is getting on with things, as one of the contestants on season 13 of Dancing with the Stars, which premieres on September 19 on ABC.

She will look back at the breakup as a learning experience.

“You have to accept that Prince Charming who is coming to save you is not going to happen,” she said.

She went on to reveal that she views the end of her relationship as “a personal failure,” explaining that “there is nothing ever pretty in saying goodbye.”

Yet Canalis remains hopeful that she will find her Prince Charming one day.

"I'm a bit of a tomboy, but when it comes to love I am a doormat,” she said. “ I'm looking for men who can give me security."
