Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs Reigns at Box Office

Animated film "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" opens no. 1 at an otherwise lackluster weekend box office.

It seems that everyone is looking to get some meatballs. The animated comedy "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" was the top at the weekend box office, taking in an estimated $30.1 million in domestic revenue.

The picture opened on Friday and is based on the famous 1978 book by Judi and Ron Barrett in which a town has food rained upon its premises. The film was expected to open up in the $25-30 million range and so far, has done better than expected.

"Cloudy" features the voices of Anna Faris, Neil Patrick Harris, and SNL comedian Andy Samberg. The film has had a generally positive response from critics with a score of 66 percent on Metacritic.

Jennifer Aniston and Matt Damon trailed far behind the animated film. Damon's comedy "The Informant," directed by Stephen Soderbergh took the second top spot with $10.5 million Aniston's romantic-comedy "Love Happens," co-starring Aaron Eckhart opened no. 4 with $8.5 million.

Both actors' current films are their lowest opening ever.

The latest Diablo Cody flick, "Jennifer's Body," starring Megan Fox, failed to make a substantial impact at the box office, taking in $6.8 million, lower than expected.
