Coachella Festival Kicks Off

California's Coachella Festival opens today despite lagging economy.

After all the cancellations of other festivals in recent months due to the poor economy, it's exciting to announce at least one did not fall victim –– today is day one of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California.

Celebrating its 10th year, the festival draws in about 150,000 people each year for all sorts of music, both big names and underground bands, according to the New York Times.

On the main stage today are Paul McCartney, Morrissey and Franz Ferdinand, according to NME.com. The Black Keys will be performing before them as an opening act.

At the Outdoor Theatre are Leonard Cohen, Conor Oberst, the Mystic Valley Band and Silversun Pickups.

In the Mojave Tent, White Lies and NASA will be making their first appearances at the festival and the Presets and Girl Talk will be performing in the Sahara Tent.

Later in the festival, new mother M.I.A. is set to perform, as are the Cure, the Killers and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
