Cocaine Ends Ike Turner's Life

Coroners find cause of death to be overdose.

In 2005, Ike Turner told the London newspaper Independent that after going to prison for cocaine, "I've been clean since then, so I think that was a blessing in disguise because a lot of people think once you get hooked on cocaine that's the end of your life." Unfortunately for the guitarist, cocaine apparently did, in fact, end his life two years later.

According to E! News, on Wednesday, coroner investigators in the San Diego Medical Examiner's Office found that Ike Turner died on Dec. 12 from a cocaine overdose. Supervising investigator Paul Parker said, "The cause of death will be [ruled] an accident." Turner, who was 76 at the time of his death, also had hypertensive heart disease and emphysema, which were referred to as significant contributing factors in his death.

Ike Turner, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is known for having been married to Tina Turner and helping create hits, such as "Proud Mary," with his former wife in the 1960s.
