Cohen, Ferrell Will Star in Upcoming Sherlock Holmes Film

Comedians Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell will star in the upcoming untitled film about Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick.

Cohen will play pipe-smoking Holmes, and Watson will be portrayed by funnyman Ferrell, who hopes to break the recent pattern of playing similar characters (head over to his imdb.com page for proof).

Matt Tolmach, the co-president of Columbia Pictures, tells Variety, "Just the idea of Sacha and Will as Sherlock Holmes and Watson makes us laugh."

"Sacha and Will are two of the funniest and most talented guys on the planet, and having them take on these iconic characters is frankly hilarious."

From the quote, the upcoming Sherlock Holmes film appears to be a comedy, which is fine, given the body of work put together by both actors. But, it must be noted, both actors have done excellent jobs in more serious roles. Notably, Ferrell's performance in Stranger than Fiction was extremely well received by critics, and Cohen was masterful in his (brief) time in Sweeney Todd.
