Coldplay Announces North American Tour

Viva la Vida will be released June 17 in the United States.

Coldplay has announced the first leg of their tour in the United States and Canada in support of their new album.

The tour, which will launch with a free show in New York's Madison Square Garden, will see the band roam North America in July and August, and then return in October and November for more dates. At this point, many more dates are expected to be added in the latter months of the tour.

Coldplay has had a string of surprising announcements, including the North American tour, in recent weeks tied with the launch of their Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends. Among the announcements have been free shows in both New York and London and free song downloads.

Viva la Vida comes out June 16 in the U.K. and June 17 in the U.S., and Coldplay begins their tour on June 23.
