Comedian in Bars, No Laughing Matter
Robert Schimmel was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of spousal abuse, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The 59-year-old comedian was taken into custody around 12:30 a.m., after an alleged physical altercation with his wife at his home in Calabasas, Calif., reports the Associated Press. Schimmel is considered an X-rated comedian who uses material often categorized as provocative. The funnyman was released before noon on $50,000 bond, according to AP.
The L.A. Times reports, the comedian is a frequent guest on both the Howard Stern radio show as well as Late Night with Conan O'Brien. He also had a 2008 memoir, Cancer on $5 a Day, which consisted of information on his ongoing battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
