Comedian Robert Schimmel in Serious Condition?
TMZ is reporting that comedian Robert Schimmel is in the hospital in serious condition following a car accident that took place on Thursday night. His 19-year-old daughter was behind the wheel of the car when she swerved to avoid an accident in her lane. The 60-year-old funnyman was in the passenger seat when the vehicle rolled over onto the side of an Arizona freeway.
According to the reports, his 11-year-old son was also in the car and escaped without any injuries. His daughter is in stable condition at the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. Schimmel was left in “very serious” condition. His family is staying by his side.
His manager confirmed the news of the accident to Entertainment Weekly, but a post on Schimmel’s Twitter page seems to contradict the severity of his injuries. A message tweeted Saturday night said, “The rumors of my demise are greatly exaggerated. Stay tuned!”
Schimmel is known for his raunchy comedy and is a frequent guest on The Howard Stern Show. He has released five comedy albums and wrote the book Cancer on $5 a Day (chemo not included): How Humor Got Me Through the Toughest Journey of My Life about his cancer survival.
He is currently suffering from cirrhosis and is waiting for a liver transplant.
