It seems to be a sad day in the comic book world! Not only does one of the members of the Fantastic Four die, but the number 588 issue is said to be the last issue.
New York Magazine writes that Johnny "The Human Torch" Storm is going to die in the midst of a massive battle. The writer Jonathan Hickman has been scripting this moment for a year-and-half now.
Although in other comic books, when a famous superhero dies, they miraculously recover in the next issue.
However, a Marvel executive dismisses that notion "588 is the final issue of the Fantastic Four. Beyond that, we're not ready to say exactly what we're doing. There won't be an issue 589."
But it seems like the people at Time are a little skeptical of this statement. They list all the characters that “supposedly” died off in an issue, but appeared alive and well in another.
For example: Fantastic Four #112, the Thing is killed off in the end, but appears to be fine in the next issue. Fantastic Four #381 Mr. Fantastic and Dr. Doom are apparently killed, but in issue #407 they appear to be fine.
Notice a pattern?
So I can see where the skepticism comes from. But I guess we have to wait and see if the Marvel executives keep to their word.
