Comic-Con reveals early clips of "Spiderman 3"

Fans at the comic book convention were treated to early glimpses of the film and hopeful news from the cast.

Five thousand fans at Comic-Con, the largest comic book convention in the country, were lucky enough to see early footage of "Spider-Man 3" due out next summer.

Director Sam Raimi and producer Laura Ziskin were at the convention, along with cast members Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Topher Grace, Bryce Dallas Howard and Thomas Haden Church.

The clips shown Saturday morning at the San Diego Convention Center featured scenes with Church's new villain Sandman as well as Spider-Man's nemesis Venom, played by Grace.

"He's more of a doppelganger to Peter," Grace said. "It's kind of a case study in if someone very similar to Peter got the same powers but didn't have a good upbringing."

Tobey Maguire also told fans the third film might not be the end of the series, which was received with excited applause.

"There will be some conclusions, though I wouldn't say it's necessarily the end," Maguire said. "We're going to leave it open-ended. If there are stories worth telling, then we'll tell them."

Raimi revealed Harry Osborn would be the third villain in the film and actor Bruce Campbell would also be playing a character, widely speculated to be the villain Mysterio.
