Fanboys and fangirls alike: book your flights, buy those costumes and get ready for the Annual ComicCon in San Diego starting on Wednesday. This year’s festival will feature booths and presentations from Tron, Captain America, With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: The Stan Lee Story and Thor.
The ComicCon festival is not only an outlet for fans to see exclusive footage and meet creators from their favorite shows, movies, and comics, but it is also an important publicity tool for major movie companies. Movies like Ironman, Twilight and Avatar were highly publicized after they were featured in past Conventions.
"If fans go to Comic Con and they see something about the new Marvel movies Thor or Captain America that they like, and they suddenly start texting or Twittering about it, before you know it, it's like a prairie fire,” said comic book creator Stan Lee, according to the Washington Post.
This year approximately 126,000 fans are expected show up at the San Diego Convention Center. At first, convention goers were mainly boys, but as of last year, approximately 40% of convention-goers are female.
