Commemorating Elvis Presley's 75th Birthday

Happy Birthday Elvis Presley!

Way down south in a Mississippi town, a woman gave birth to a baby boy 75 years ago who would forever change the history of music.

Yesterday, January 8, marked what would have been the 75th birthday of the rock and roll icon, Elvis Presley.

Tens of millions of loyal fans all over the world came together yesterday to celebrate "the King's" birthday. One of the festivities was, of course, in Memphis, Tennessee at the famous Graceland mansion. Nearly 3,000 people, including the icon's former wife, Priscilla Presley, attended a celebration of his life and music. Sharing her memories of Elvis, Priscilla claimed, "I think Elvis would always be a part of music, no matter what. It was in his blood. I don't know if he'd be doing rock 'n' roll right now; I think that maybe he'd be going into gospel. Maybe even preaching a little bit. He loved to teach and loved the Bible. He always would have been dedicated to his music, that's for sure."

The Memphis Grizzlies are also taking part in the remembrance. The team plans to wear blue suede sneakers in one of their NBA games.

To further complement the marking of Presley's birthday, the new Cirque du Soleil show, “Viva Elvis,” is ready to hit Las Vegas at the ARIA Resort and Casino in a few weeks.

Oh, and while you're buying tickets to the show, pick up a copy of the new four disc compilation, “Elvis 75: Good Rockin' Tonight.”
