What’s a late night talk-show host without his bandleader?
Fans of Conan O’Brien are about to find out, as his bandleader of about 17 years will not be joining him on his upcoming TBS show, Conan. Rolling Stone reports that Max Weinberg, who has been with O’Brien since 1993, will officially part ways with the former Late Night host when Conan premieres this November.
Reports say guitarist Jimmy Vivino will be the new bandleader on O’Brien’s show, and James Wormworth, who has substituted for Weinberg many times before, will be the group’s new drummer.
Weinberg is highly regarded in the music industry. From 1993 to 2009, he led the “Max Weinberg 7” on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and, after that, he led “Max Weinberg and the Tonight Show Band” on O’Brien’s shortly lived stint as host of The Tonight Show.
Weinberg has also been the longtime drummer for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, and is the author of a book called The Big Beat: Conversations with Rock’s Great Drummers, which is a series of interviews he held with famous drummers.
