Conan O'Brien And Fox Still In Preliminary Stages

Former late night talk show host free to look at other options

ABC News reported early Thursday morning that the talks between Conan O’Brien and Fox for a late night talk show are not in an exclusive stage.

This leaves O’Brien free to look at other opportunities. He’s allegedly been pitched six or seven legitimate TV ideas and he's been mulling over all of them. But O’Brien has stated he’s comfortable doing the traditional talk format as he has been for the past 17 years.

“(The issues) at Fox require you to look at other alternatives,” a source close to O’Brien said.

The two sides have not been in communication for two weeks, although Fox has given O’Brien framework for a deal. Fox seems like the most viable TV destination for O’Brien, as he has the major supporters he needs at the network. O'Brien has also never had working relationship with Fox in the past. Fox CEO Rupert Murdoch has said he’s behind the idea if it’s a potential moneymaker.

Conan has been nothign short of active since talk show The Tonight Show went off the air on January 22. He's made major press launching a Twitter account and announcing a 40-city comedy tour.
