Conrad Murray sentenced to four years in prison


Dr. Conrad Murray, who was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson, was sentenced today. Murray faced up to four years in prison or probation. The sentence was that Dr. Conrad Murray would receive four years in prison. The judge stated that Murray is and still remains dangerous to the public. Murray will receive the maximum term but might not serve all of the time behind bars. Murray will receive four years in custody due to the involuntary manslaughter conviction.

CNN.com reported that even though Murray was sentenced to four years in prison the sentence may be dropped down to two years in county jail, which will then most likely result in an a house arrest sentencing due to jail over crowding in California.

CBS News added that Murray might have to pay up to a large of amount of money to the Jackson children, including the 1.8 million dollars in funeral costs.

Before the sentencing started statements from both the Murray family and the Jackson family. Then the judge detailed his sentencing decision. The statements were not televised. The judge said that Murray destroyed evidence and mentioned that Murray showed no remorse for his guilt. Murray will also lost his medical license in numerous states.

Supporters of Michael Jackson and Murray were outside of the court house today and the Jackson family was in the court room when sentencing was announced. Murray's mother and girlfriend attend the sentencing hearing as well.
