Coolio Pleads Guilty

Rapper will enter rehabilitation to avoid jail.

Rap star Coolio pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine on Friday. The rapper will enter a drug rehabilitation program for 18 months in an attempt to avoid serving jail time, reports Reuters.

Coolio, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey, Jr., was arrested on March 6 at Los Angeles International Airport. Authorities found cocaine after searching the rapper's luggage. Although the Grammy winner resisted arrest at the time, authorities agreed to drop charges of battery and possession of a smoking device in exchange for his guilty plea.

Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney's office, said Ivey faced three years in prison if convicted on all charges that were brought against him.

Coolio, is well know for his hits in the mid-1990s with "Gangsta's Paradise" and "Fantastic Voyage," but in recent years he has spent most of his time on reality television shows like "Celebrity Fear Factor" and "Coolio's Rules."
