Corey Haim's Final Weeks Spent Caring for his Ailing Mother
Corey Haim put his mother first. Haim, 38, had been caring for his mother Judy, 61, who is battling breast cancer, before he died Wednesday of a reported accidental overdose.
Haim was staying in his mother’s apartment complex in between acting gigs, People magazine reports, as he attended doctor appointments with her and helped her through chemotherapy treatments.
Director Jensen LeFlore, who was working on the movie Decisions with Haim, tells People:
“His mom was all Corey had ... He was focused on taking care of his mom. They were living together. He wanted to take care of her.”
People reports that Haim acquired flu-like symptoms while living with his mother and was advised bed rest by a doctor.
Ultimately it was Haim’s mother who called 911 after discovering her son unresponsive. People says Haim’s mother was sharing a bed with him and heard Haim's breathing heavily and later walking around in the middle of the night. Suddenly, Haim collapsed and she called 911.
Now Haim’s mother has lost the person closest to her and must continue her battle with breast cancer without her son by her side.
