Country Singer is Behind Bars

Mindy McCready, country singer, was put in a Florida jail for violating her probation.

Country singer, Mindy McCready, was put in jail on in Florida on Friday because of an arrest warrant issued earlier this month. She was accused of violating her probation on a drug conviction.

According to the warrant, the singer left Tennessee without permission and failed to check in with her probation officer in July. It was the second time McCready violated her probation. No bail was posted, and authorities say that she will most likely have to serve time.

The 29-year-old singer's probation stems from an August 2004 incident where she was charged with illegally obtaining the painkiller OxyContin from a pharmacy in Tennessee. McCready claimed she was getting the pills for a friend, but eventually pleaded guilty to the charge.

In May, the former Nashville star was stopped for speeding and charged with a DUI. Two days after the arrest, McCready was almost choked to death by William McKnight, her 38-year-old boyfriend, who was later charged with attempted murder.

She was hospitalized last month in Florida after a drug overdose that police thought was an apparent suicide attempt.
