Chely Wright, the first country performer to come out as a lesbian, married her partner, Lauren Blitzer on Saturday.
The 40-year-old singer wed her activist girlfriend at a family member’s home in Connecticut in front of at least 200 guests, People.com reported.
The two sported traditional white wedding gowns, but opted out of a veil.
“We like our hair too much,” Chely said.
The couple, being of two different religious backgrounds, had a rabbi and a priest preside over the ceremony.
Chely came out in 2010 after staying silent for years about her sexuality because of fears that her homosexuality would hinder her music career, reported the LA Times.
"They would rather you were a drug addict than be gay," she told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson in an interview.
