Cowell's next show to premiere tonight
Look out, America. Simon Cowell is back.
Tonight marks the premiere of his latest show, "America's Got Talent" on NBC. It's "American Idol" meets "The Gong Show" as bad jugglers, good singers, and all kinds of crazy acts perform in front of a studio audience and three judges. Eventually the audience votes for the most talented.
Regis Philbin is hosting. Cowell is excited for Philbin saying that he "is better looking [than Ryan Seacrest], he's less vain, he's better at ad-libbing and he likes me." Turns out that Philbin was trying to revive the genre of the variety show, but it never happened, so when it was revealed that NBC was developing "America's Got Talent," he approached them about hosting.
Cowell will not appear on camera, because his "Idol" contract forbids it. But he's found a host of celebrities to serve as judges. They are British journalist / TV presenter Piers Morgan, singer / actress Brandy, and everyone's favorite celebrity, "Baywatch" star David Hasselhoff.
Hasselhoff plus Cowell plus bad juggling? All I can say is "sign me up."
