San Francisco Chronicle reports that the San Francisco 49ers have signed wide receiver Michael Crabtree to a six-year contract. Crabtree was selected by the 49ers in April with the 10th overall pick in the NFL Draft, but held out for 71 days in the hopes of landing a more lucrative contract.

According to the Washington Post, Crabtree's contract can be voided after five seasons if he successfully reaches certain performance benchmarks. Up until Wednesday, he remained the only unsigned first-round pick of the 2009 NFL Draft.

USA Today states that former New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs coach Herman Edwards believes the 49ers are the clear cut favorite to win the NFC West, especially after finally signing Crabtree. The 49ers are currently 3-1 and coming off a 35-0 victory over the St. Louis Rams.
