A "Criminal Minds" Spin-Off Is in the Works
Although nothing is official, a Criminal Minds spin-off is being thoroughly discussed, according to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello.
"It's safe to say there will be something soon," the series' executive producer Ed Bernero confirms. "We had talked about it from the beginning, but something always got in the way of it happening . . . like Mandy [Patinkin] leaving and the strike. But it's definitely gaining momentum now.
Much like The Office spin-off, the method of spinning off CBS's hit show has not been agreed upon (meaning the characters involved, etc.). But Bernero says the talks between the network and the show's producer, ABC Studios, are "looking at all of the things the FBI does and how we can work that into the Criminal Minds world."
Bernero is rather hesitant to poach a character from the current cast for the spin-off, but open to all ideas.
"We're very happy with the team we have," he told Ausiello. "On the other hand, it's possible characters could be on both shows. . . . All options are open."
