Crowe Put On 63 Pounds for Role
In the footsteps of actor Tom Hanks, who packed on more than 50 pounds for his role in Cast Away, Australian actor Russell Crowe added 63 pounds to his girth for his upcoming role in Body of Lies, according to People Magazine.
The actor reunited with director Ridley Scott for the upcoming flick. Scott also directed the 2000 movie, Gladiator, in which Crowe famously buffed up his body. Scott's latest film pushed Crowe in a different direction, forcing him to put on weight.
Crowe told Extra that he enjoyed putting on the weight for the role.
"I'll have that cheeseburger for breakfast, thank you!" the actor joked.
Crowe was previously known for his love of Australian beer, though he said he chose not to drink beer to put on the weight because of his two young sons.
"The drinking thing has sort of taken a different place in my life since I had kids," Crowe says.
"There are a whole lot of things I don't do anymore because it affects my level of patience. I don't want to be in that place where I'm exasperated with these beautiful children."
Crowe has two sons: Charlie, 4, and Tennyson, 2. His new movie, Body of Lies, hits theaters on Oct. 10.
