Crown Wars Part Deux
On top of the controversy of racy pictures, Carrie Prejean is also being urged to relinquish her title as Miss California. According to foxnews.com, the pageant directors are deciding her fate, as racy pictures add to the fact that Prejean isn't quite fulfilling her duties as Miss California.
"Carrie is still Miss California USA, but right now she is not acting in the capacity of Miss California USA. She is acting as Carrie Prejean and working on things that are important to Carrie," said Miss California co-director Keith Lewis.
He's speaking, of course, about the pageant queen's choice to join the National Organization for Marriage, shortly after her controversial reply to openly gay blogger Perez Hilton's question regarding gay marriage.
Many people are calling for the girl to step down and relinquish her crown if she continues to crusade for the organization. Shandi Finnessey, Miss USA 2004, has said that she thinks Prejean should do what she is passionate about "as Carrie not as Miss California."
But despite the girl's actions, Lewis believes that she should not be forced to face such criticism. "Our job is bringing people together and many people felt she was vilified and targeted. I don't think she deserves that." Lewis added, "This isn't an issue we wanted to engage in but we are in it-we are politically involved in some of this conversation and this chaos."
The directors of both Miss USA and Miss Universe plan to make a decision about Prejean in the coming weeks.
