Cruise and Diaz to pair for action flick

Moviegoers should keep their eyes peeled for an action comedy pairing Hollywood heavyweights Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz that could be in theaters by summer 2010.

Tom Cruise is honing in on a 20th Century Fox action picture formerly entitled "Wichita," that would pair him with actress Cameron Diaz.

Diaz and Cruise have given the script a greenlight and Fox seems to predicting a summer 2010 release, reports Variety.

The film's script has gone through multiple revisions with drafts by Scott Frank and Laeta Kalgridis putting on the final touches

Frank wrote the screenplay for Cruise's futuristic 2002 action film "Minority Report." He has also wrote the screenplays for "Get Shorty" and "Marley and Me."

In the as-yet-untitled action comedy Cruise will play a secret agent who pops in and out of the life of a single woman.

Since Cruise's heralded performance in 2008's "Valkyrie," several studios have tried to woo Cruise to star in their projects. Some projects that Cruise has shown interest in are the Len Wiseman-directed Dreamworks thriller "Motorcade"; the David Cronenberg-directed MGM drama "The Matarese Circle"; Universal/Working Title comedy "Lost for Words" and "The 28th Amendment," the Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck-directed Warner Bros. thriller.
