Cruise Debunks Shrek Rumors
A storm of rumors spread throughout the blogosphere that Tom Cruise would take on the role of the villain in the upcoming "Shrek" sequel, Shrek Goes Fourth, but a rep for the actor has denied that Cruise will be involved with the upcoming "Shrek" project, according to E! Online.
"As of today, there is no truth to the Tom Cruise-'Shrek 4' rumor," rep Jeff Raymond said without further explanation.
The rumors ignited after movie blog cinemablend.com announced on Sept. 4 that they received an anonymous e-mail from an unnamed studio insider which said Cruise was being considered for the role of the villain.
DreamWorks has declined to comment.
Cruise had considered doing "Edwin Salt," but passed on the role of a CIA officer mistaken for a president-assassinating Russian spy. The part is now reportedly being rewritten for a woman so that Angelina Jolie can take the part.
Shrek Goes Fourth will feature the familiar voices of Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy. It's currently in the early production stages and expected to be released in 2010.
