Cruise May Star in "Edwin A, Salt"

Tom Cruise is "intrigued" by the Hitchcockian thriller "Edwin A. Salt"

In "Valkyrie," which is currently filming, Tom Cruise will play a German general who courageously led a plot to assassinate Hitler during World War II; if he agrees to star in the upcoming Hitchcockian thriller "Edwin A. Salt," the role will represent a return to more conventional Cruise territory.

According to Variety, Cruise (if he decides to play the role, which he claims to be "intrigued" by) will "play the title character, a CIA officer who is fingered by a defector as a Russian sleeper spy. Salt must elude capture by his superiors and sets out to reunite with his family and prove his innocence." Terry George ("Hotel Rwanda") will reportedly direct the film, which will be scripted by Kurt Wimmer and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Sunil Perkash.
