CTV Grabs "Flash Forward"
Following the L.A. screenings, Canadian broadcaster CTV bought the Disney sci-fi drama, Flash Forward.
According to an article on Variety.com, "Pickup isn't all that surprising considering CTV has done lots of business with Disney in the past. The network is both the 18-49 demo ratings and total-viewer champ and its lineup includes nine of Canada's top ten shows, including Lost, Grey's Anatomy, American Idol and the CSI and Law & Order franchises."
Flash Forward has a star-studded cast including the actor who seamlessly brought William Shakespeare to life on the silver screen in 1998's Shakespeare in Love, Joseph Fiennes. Other castmates include John Cho, who is playing "Hikaru Sulu" in the recently released Star Trek, Jack Davenport who played "Commodore James Norrington" in all three of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, Peyton List who has had guest appearances on CBS's CSI, AMC's Golden Globe-winning series, Mad Men, and played the role of "Lucy Montgomery" on the CBS soap opera, As the World Turns from 2001 to 2005, and Courtney B. Vance, best known for his role on Law & Order: Criminal Intent as "Assistant District Attorney Ron Carter."
The Variety.com article summarizes the plot of the series, "[The] 'Flash Forward' storyline centers around whether a group of ordinary folks, who after seeing a glimpse of their future, can or want to reach their ultimate destiny."
As to what channel the series will be shown on, a CTV spokesperson said it could air on the "A" Channel or another CTVglobemedia-owned net. The Canadian networks will make a decision on that issue by June 2.
It looks as though ABC has a lot of faith in Flash Forward since it will air during the fall schedule at 8 p.m. on Thursdays before Grey's Anatomy, ABC's highest-rated program in the 18-49 demographic.
