The CW OKs 3 More Drama Pilots
The CW has amassed a barrage of Hollywood heavyweights to take charge of the three drama pilots the network has just approved.
According to HollywoodReporter.com: “[The CW has ordered] dramas produced by Heroes star Hayden Panettiere and Smallville leading man Tom Welling. The network on Tuesday greenlighted HMS, Hellcats and Betwixt all from WBTV and CBS Studios. HMS and Hellcats received presentation orders, while Betwixt will film a full pilot.”
HMS explores the exploits of the sassy and uninhibited freshmen class at Harvard Medical School as seen through the eyes of a young female student. Amy Holden Jones, who wrote the 1988 Julia Roberts romantic dramedy Mystic Pizza, also wrote the script for HMS, and will be its producer with Panettiere serving as co-producer.
The HollywoodReporter.com goes on to talk about the two other upcoming dramas: “Hellcats, an ensemble show set in world of competitive college cheerleading described as Election meets Bring It On, was penned by Kevin Murphy who is exec producing with Welling. Based on the novel of the same name, Betwixt revolves around ‘changelings’ in an urban setting who are responsible for saving humans from evil.”
Elizabeth Chandler, who wrote the screenplays for the 2006 romantic adventure comedy The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and its 2008 sequel The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, penned Betwixt’s script and will be its showrunner along with Paul Stupin, who was also the producer for several episodes of the ABC Family drama Make It or Break It, which stars Full House alum Candace Cameron Bure and Frasier alum Peri Gilpin.
The HollywoodReporter.com article concludes by stating that, “The trio join two other hourlong pilots ordered by the CW last week, an update of the 1990s action thriller La Femme Nikita from McG and a family drama from Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino.”
