CW Still Searching for Remakes

Due to the CW's success at reviving such popular programs as "90210" and "Melrose Place," the network is on the lookout for more past TV favorites.

The CW, the network that revamped old television hits such as "90210" and "Melrose Place," is still looking at other beloved television favorites to dust off for a second run.

According to Variety.com, CW Entertainment president Dawn Ostroff told reporters during the TV Critics Association press tour that she's interested in perhaps reviving another dormant femme-centric series next year.

"There are other shows we're looking at, but we can't talk about it yet," she said.

Yet Ostroff notes that whether a proposed old program fits into the CW's young female demographic is a major deciding factor in its possible revival.

In addition, Ostroff defended the CW's choice to refrain from airing original shows during the network's off-season because the cost just wouldn't justify the time and effort put in. "Blonde Charity Mafia," the CW's only original summer show, will now be included in the regular season. This unscripted series will likely be shown during the "America's Next Top Model" slot in December and January.

Ostroff also explains that the CW functions differently then the bigger networks in that it must air repears of its shows in order to pay off costs. Since the shows that are rerun are serials, which typically don't repeat well, the CW has had a very difficult summer in the ratings department.

Due to the network's mediocre summer ratings, Ostroff says the network has plans for a major fall marketing thrust. The plan is to unleash CW's lineup three weeks prior to when the traditional premiere week begins in order to evade the late-September chaos.
