Cynthia Nixon bares all… well her head at least, for her upcoming Broadway play, Wit.
The former Sex and the City gal plays Vivian Bearing, a poetry professor at the peak of her career. Nixon discussed her newly shaven head with Live! With Kelly. She states, “I was always kind of curious to see what it would be like…I don’t think I’m going to keep it forever.”
Nixon, who dealt with her own battle with cancer, explains via StyleNews, that her character “goes through this really heavy-duty chemo. She meets that challenge, but she learns a lot about herself.” She will take the stage on January 26.
Nixon has stirred up controversy regarding her sexuality when she spoke with The New York Times stating that that being gay was a “choice” for her. Nixon, who came out in 2004, produced two children with her then longtime boyfriend. Nixon has angered the gay and lesbian community, sparking controversy over her words.
She states, “I’ve been straight and I’ve been gay, and gay is better. And they tried to get me to change it, because they said it implies that homosexuality can be a choice. And for me, it is a choice. I understand that for many people it’s not, but for me it’s a choice, and you don’t get to define my gayness for me."
Nixon went on to discuss how this particular subject lights a fire within her because she feels she is forced to feel a certain way. She adds, " I say it doesn’t matter if we flew here or we swam here, it matters that we are here and we are one group and let us stop trying to make a litmus test for who is considered gay and who is not.”
John Aravosis, of Americablog , insists that Nixon is not gay, but bisexual. He writes, “She needs to learn how to choose her words better, because she just fell into a right-wing trap, willingly. When the religious right says it's a choice, they mean you quite literally choose your sexual orientation, you can change it at will, and that's bull."
