‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’ Recap: 05/04/11 and 05/05/11

The death of Osama bin Laden continues to take up the majority of the news media’s time, so it continued to be covered by Jon Stewart on The Daily Show.

He started Wednesday by making fun of the media’s constant switching of Obama and Osama. “Obama killed Osama...Hey, this is a phonetically difficult story!” he said. Then he went on about the silliness of the “Bin Laden Bump.”

Stewart then touched on the controversy of releasing a photo of bin Laden’s corpse. He joked that the photo could not possibly be gruesome to Americans because every show we watch in primetime is probably worse.

Last night, Stewart targeted the Republican debate that was held -- although, since the show is taped early in the day, it had not happened yet. He called it “the competition to find out once and for all who comes in fourth in the Republican primaries.”

Donald Trump had also called himself a “traditionalist” when he compared his stance on gay marriage to his refusal to use a new kind of putter when playing golf.

Next was a hilarious montage of pundits calling bin Laden’s death “a defining moment in Obama’s presidency.” Stewart said, “It will be, until Obama’s no-holds barred moon fight with Kim Jong Il.”

Then, he showed clips of how the media calls every single one of his decisions as a defining moment. Of course, he showed how Ed Schultz is “pundit zero” -- the one who calls everything Obama does defining.

Finally, John Oliver had a nice package on churches that allow space for Muslims and mosques that allow space for Christians.
