Damon Joins Freeman, Eastwood for New Film
Matt Damon has signed on to star in Human Factor, joining producer Morgan Freeman in the Clint Eastwood directed film set in South Africa, according to Variety.
Damon will play rugby star Francois Pienaar, who helped create - along with Nelson Mandela - an event that gave whites and blacks something to unite over in the aftermath of apartheid (the worst time in the country's history).
The script, written by Anthony Peckham, is an adaptation of John Carlin's book, The Human Factor: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Changed the World.
The premise is that Nelson Mandela, free from jail after 27 years, is elected president. Shortly after, he decides to support South Africa's Springboks team when the country is chosen to host the World Cup of Rugby in 1985. Mandela got them into the competition after previous banishment, and they ended up defeating New Zealand in overtime for the cup.
Damon will play the captain of the Rugby team.
