Dan Brown, best known for his hit novel "Da Vinci Code," which sold 80 million copies worldwide and was made into a movie starring Tom Hanks, is breaking records with his newest book, "The Lost Symbol."

"The Lost Symbol" broke one-day sales records, according to its publishers and booksellers. Over a million copies were sold across the US, Canada and the UK. Amazon.com Inc. said the book was its bestselling first-day adult fiction title to date and Barnes & Noble Inc said the book broke its previous one-day sales for adult fiction as well.

The book comes six years after Brown's last book, "Da Vinci Code," but brings back the same hero, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, on a new adventure. In his newest quest, Langdon must uncover secrets in Washington, D.C. in order to save his kidnapped mentor Peter Solomon. Key locations in the book include the US Capitol, the Library of Congress, and other landmarks in D.C.
