Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol Breaks Records In First Week Sales
Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol, a follow up to The Da Vinci Code. The Lost Symbol, according to Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group, in the first week of sales, sold more than 2 million copies in hardcover, audio and electronic book editions in the U.S., Britain and Canada.
Random House told The New York Times it is "the biggest one-week sale in Random House history for a single title."
With large numbers of book sales I'm sure this helped the moods of stressed booksellers in this lacking economy but The Lost Symbol came nowhere near the records set by JK Rowling's final Harry Potter book. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows sold 8.3 million copies in the U.S. alone within its first 24 hours on sale in July 2007. Nevertheless, Dan Brown appeals to the adult market while JK Rowling had a bigger market with her books appealing to both adults and children.
