Dancing With the Stars Couple Break Up

Derek Hough and Shannon Elizabeth have decided to end their year-long relationship.

Dancing With the Stars couple, dancer Derek Hough, 24, and actress Shannon Elizabeth, 35, broke up and made the announcement via Twitter on Friday. The two had been together for a year.

"Hi everyone, we wanted you all to know directly from us, that Shannon & I have decided to end our relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend," Hough wrote. Soon after, Elizabeth wrote that the couple still loves one another very much and that they will still be involved in each other's lives as friends. Each party sent out nearly matching messages. Elizabeth later sent out another tweet thanking people for their encouragement and support.

The two started dating after they began dancing together on the ABC hit show during its sixth season. They landed in seventh place during the competition.

Hough is still on the show and is currently working on a musical career with Mark Ballas in the Ballas Hough Band.
