'Dancing with the Stars' Recap - Week Six performances (Broadway Week)

We started the night off with a performance of Sister Act the Musical and I've never seen glitter nuns before. I hope someone got a Halloween idea from the performance.

There are two performances for the celebrities with the returning group dance. There was a lot of stress and drama, but even more quality dancing.

Rob & Cheryl - Cha-Cha - Rob was thankful for moving further and the two were performing from Jersey Boys. Kris, Rob's mom/manager was in tears for support. The two started shaking and doing stereotypical Four Seasons choreography before going into the cha-cha. I think that Rob still has some awkward moments where he has to look at Cheryl, but he did a decent job.

Len thought there was good timing, but he was lacking rhythm. Bruno thought he lacked the energy and power in his performance. Carrie Ann liked the charisma, but he still hasn't fully grown. Score: 22 (8,7,7).

Nancy & Tristan - Foxtrot - Nancy was lacking enthusiasm last week, but with Broadway she had to up her energy level. The two decided to up the choreography, but Nancy got a bit upset. Tristan was drenched in sweat as he tried to teach Nancy. The two seemed to dance somewhat normally for the first half of the routine. There wasn't much flash and pow outside of some interesting spins and the kick line fit the theme well.

Bruno liked the fun nature of the dance. Carrie Ann thought the dance was a showstopper. Len appreciated the personality, but the sections in hold were weak. Score: 24 (9,7,8).

David & Kym - Quickstep - After getting the praises of the judges, David & Kym needed to keep the momentum going. Kym knew that David had to keep his energy in check. The fact that Kym looks (and sounds) like Sandy helped the performance, but David's footwork was off at some points. The dance felt a bit slow for a quickstep, but David tried his best to keep his energy.

Carrie Ann thought he met expectations, but they weren't synchronized. Len thought it was rough at points, but the dance was fun. Bruno thought while his energy was good, there were chaotic moments. Score: 23 (8,7,8).

Ricki & Derek - Quickstep - Ricki's foxtrot lacked timing so she wanted to redeem herself. She struggled with stamina during rehearsals, but Derek decided to be tougher to keep her motivated. Derek's choreography was better fitting for a quickstep and their music was better. Ricki's stamina looked good, but once in a while she looked like an enthused girl that got to dance with Derek Hough instead of two partners.

Len thought that Ricki had a lot of talent, but her head was in wrong places at times. Bruno thought that the choreography was great and Ricki's interpretation was great. Carrie Ann loved the poetry in motion. Score: 29 (10,9,10).

Chaz & Lacey - Tango - Chaz was grateful for the experience but wanted to keep fighting. While Chaz understood the music, Lacey was starting to get tough with her choreography and her teaching style. I gotta give Chaz credit for dancing with the mask on which had to be tough. Chaz looked pretty rough during the performance, but Lacey kept up with her side and provided a harder routine.

Bruno compared the tango to a penguin trying to be dark; he thought the character didn't fit. Carrie Ann knew that Chaz's journey showed evolution of aggression; there wasn't enough content. Len thought that while Chaz was trying hard, but the hold and aggression was weak. Score: 19 (7,6,6).

Hope & Maks - Rumba - Hope was disappointed that she couldn't keep doing better; she was frustrated at hitting a plateau. Maks decided to bring in the women from the dance troupe to help teach femininity. After the troupe left, Maks continued to be aggressive with Hope. While I didn't like that Hope performed the song in flats. The separated sections were a little weak, but Hope was trying her best to sexier than she has ever been.

Carrie Ann saw the effort in movement quality and some grace, but some of the movements were forced. Len was a bit upset about the boots and her heel-leads; it was her worst dance. Maks got defensive with the judges which may hurt their chances. Bruno thought that the rumba needed more constant movement and the acting broke the dancing. Score: 20 (7,6,7).

J.R. & Karina - Quickstep - J.R. was motivated by Ricki & Derek and Karina decided to create her most ambitious routine because she had faith in J.R. The routine had all the right elements of a quickstep and the two easily fit into character. There was movement and speed that covered the whole dance floor.

Len thought that he did a great job. Bruno thought the dance was a hit. Carrie Ann thought that Bob Fosse would be proud. Score: 29 (10,9,10).

Musical Guest - Kristen Chenoweth - The medley was nice, Kristen is a great singer, but I thought it was a waste of time. At least she took getting her interview cut in stride.

Group Dance - Kevin Maher and Carson Kressley helped teach the contestants choreography. It basically made Rob and David look better. The crash pads were on for practice as Nancy managed a lift. After the group dance disappeared for a few seasons, the group dance began and they allowed Chaz to have a moment to shine in the front and then allowed Ricki to be lead prostitute. Each solo was standard, except for Hope who almost dropped Maks and a very rusty Ricki who managed not to fall.

Final Scores

Top
J.R. & Karina - 29
Ricki & Derek - 29
Middle
Nancy & Tristan - 24
David & Kym - 23
Rob & Cheryl - 22

Low
Hope & Maks - 20
Chaz & Lacey – 19

With Halloween being the theme next week, I’m hoping that the team dances also make a return. It seems obvious that J.R., Ricki, and Nancy are in the clear for elimination, leaving Hope, Chaz, and possibly Rob. I hope that Chaz finally gets cut if there is a group dance, then the quality level would still be strong.
