The Dark Knight Makes Hollywood History
According to the Associated Press, smash hit movie The Dark Knight brought it's domestic total to $502.4 million Sunday.
The only other movie in Hollywood history to top the $500 million mark was Titanic, which brought in a total of $600.8 million. The Dark Knight has brought in its total in half the time, being at the box office for six weeks.
In all due justice to Titanic though, you must figure in that with today's prices, it was reported that the movie would have to take in $900 million to match the number of tickets that were sold to Titanic.
Head of distribution at Warner Bros., Dan Fellman, expects the movie's earnings to top out at $530 million, but that it could go as high as $550 million if business keeps up.
True enough, The Dark Knight could easily climb to $505 million with the Labor Day holiday, that reportedly amounts to one eighth of overall summer revenue for Hollywood, that will make $4.2 billion, topping last summer's earnings of $4.18 billion.
Fellman is excited about The Dark Knight not placing a limit on its success, "I keep raising the number because it just keeps holding better than expected."
